1. What they were created from and when

The substance from which Allah created them is light. In Saheeh Muslim it is narrated from Aishah (ra) that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said:” The Angels were created from light, the Jinn were created from smokeless fire, and Adam was created from that which has been described to you.” (Muslim)

The birth of Jesus is the same as that of Adam who did not have either a father or a mother. Neither of them can claim divinity.

About the birth and mission of Jesus, Allah said in the Qur’an:”Then she pointed to him. They said: How can we talk to one who is in the cradle, a young boy? He (Jesus) spoke: Lo! I am the slave of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and has appointed me a Prophet, and has made me blessed wheresoever I may be, and has enjoined upon prayer and almsgiving so long as I am alive, and has made me dutiful toward her who bore me, and has not made me arrogant. Peace on me the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive! Such was Jesus, son of Mary, a statement of the truth concerning which they doubt. It befitted not (the Majesty of) Allah that has should take unto Himself a son. Glory be to Him! When He decreed a thing, He said unto it only: Be! And it is.” (19: 29-35)
