Allah (swt) said in the Holy Qur’an: “Glorified be He who carried His servant by night from Al-Masjid al-Haram (the inviolable place of worship) to Al-Masjid al-Aqsa (the far distance place of worship), the neighbourhood whereof We have blessed, that We might show him or our token. Lo! He is the Hearer, and the Seer.” (Al-Isra’: 1)

Dyeing the hair

Another aspect of beautification relates to dyeing the gray hair of the head or the beard. It was reported that the Jews and Christians refrained from dying the hair, regarding such beautification and adornment as contrary to piety and devotion, and not befitting rabbis, priests, and ascetics. The Prophet (saw) forbade Muslims to imitate these people or follow their ways, in order that Muslims might develop their own distinctive and independent characteristics in appearance and behaviour.

Prohibition of tattooing, cutting the teeth, and undergoing surgery for beautification

Among such excesses are tattooing and shortening the teeth. The Messenger of Allah (saw) cursed the tattooer and the one who is tattooed, the shortener of teeth and the one whose teeth are shortened (Muslim).
